Ochoa Primary Science & Sports Academy Battle of the Books Team takes 3rd place and wins Most Spirited Award at the 2026 Region One Battle of the Books Junior Division Competition!

Battle of the Books is a reading competition at the district and regional level for students 1st -12th grade. This event is designed to foster a love of literature through  team-based literature knowledge from various books. Teams read from a curated list of books and compete in quiz-style matches, answering questions about plot, characters, and settings. This is the second year Donna ISD has a junior division at the district level adding first and second grade students to this competitive and fun event, and it is the first year Donna ISD places at the regional level.

Our team did an excellent job representing Donna ISD at the regional level with their power blazers, team player strategies, and wealth of knowledge that outranked districts such as McAllen and Sharyland to name a few. Their presence left an impression of confidence, knowledge, and determination.

Great job to our librarian Laura Mederes for leading her team and instilling winning attributes of strong work ethics, communication, and clear purpose to her team consisting of Avery Reyna, Rylee Feaster, Camila Reta, and Jonah Vazquez.  Donna ISD proud!
